On this somber day as the 21st memorial of the September 11th terrorist attacks, I would like to provide this update:
I will be returning to writing my newsletter soon after a 1 month+ hiatus. We’ve been having a difficult time regarding our 3-year-old son Jonah’s cerebellar atrophy with ataxia. We have received preliminarily bad news regarding his prognosis, and it looks like his walking has gotten worse in just the past few months. Our newborn son, Milo, is doing well and is now 7 and 1/2 weeks old, but we do not know if he will be afflicted, too.
I have decided to resign from my job as a high school teacher of World History, U.S. History, Government, and Economics. My last day is Wednesday, September 14, 2022. I didn’t start this school year expecting to resign, but with the news we have gotten regarding Jonah’s condition, I want to spend more time with him.
My position as a social studies teacher has been full time since January 31, 2022, and I also taught social studies from October 2020 to October 2021. However, for this whole year I have refrained from posting on the Internet about it, as I know from experience that publishing this information online would result in people seeking my termination with unfounded allegations of being a “woke” liberal who is indoctrinating students, despite the fact I do nothing of the sort and am actually overly deferential and inclusive of right-wing viewpoints. Now that I am leaving, I don’t have to conceal this part of my life from my online newsletter and other public statements.
Thank you to everyone who has reached out regarding Jonah’s health. It has been an arduous summer, but we are very much looking forward to spending more time together as a family.

Richard, our priorities must go to our children, they are the most dependent upon us. Together with your wife, your children's mother, you will walk these days together step by step. I will keep you and your family close to my heart and per the indigenous ways of North America I will send smoke and hang prayer ties for all of you. I'm not sure what this grandmother can do but if there is anything please let me know. I can babysit in a pinch for Milo if you need full attention for Jonah, you know how to reach me.
Richard you're a great Dad and also a Great Man. I will pray for good results with your son's medical complications. I enjoy your writings and we are on the same page politically. GOP has become Hitler's Hamburg Party trying to tear are democracy apart. DeadSantis, Scott, Rubio, Waltz and Gaetz perishing in the fires of Lucifer's steel smelter would be to kind for their actions of treason.
